Bronte Beach Walk - Sydney

  • Dec. 14th, 2008 at 6:54 PM

Thankfully the sun came out long enough for the weekend.

I have posted before about one of our (Anthony & I) favourite walking spots in Sydney. Bronte to Bondi beach.

Here are some photos that Anthony took today at Bronte Beach  ( Sunday).

Reasons why I love Sydney

Yesterday Anthony and I did the Bronte to Bondi walk was a beautiful day for it and I had never been to Bronte beach before though we often go to Bondi when its not too hot.

It was so busy down there but the ocean was the most luminous colour turquoise near the shore and deep rich indigo further out to sea, there were lots of surfers out and lots more people walking along the coastal cliff pathway ( which if you live in Sydney you have to do it to see the most stunning views) that leads from Bronte, through to Tamarama and eventually to Bondi.

Someone had mentioned that there had been whales visible on Friday and I said to Anthony ,,hmm I wonder if we will see any......

When we finally made it to Bondi we were pretty tired - I was extra tired cause I had been to the gym that morning so we kind of sat down feeling rather buggered. At that point the beach was getting really busy so we decided to head back home.....then the most AMAZING thing happened for some reason Anthony stopped to take one last look at the ocean, and he said look a whale!

I couldn't see a thing he was pointing out to sea, he said look near that white boat ! Im looking thinking, what the, I still couldn't see anything except the boat  and then all of a sudden.... I saw it - there were several of them, black  huge tails splashing about and mist and spray from one of the whale's blowhole's.

So we stayed of course and we kept watching intently for a few minutes not knowing what we would see next and then we saw a beautiful killer whale dive out of the sea so majestically and by this time a few people on the beach had also spotted them and they all cheered. It was amazing! So uplifting and inspiring.

I felt extra blessed as I had NEVER seen a whale before, I only saw some dolphins at Nobby's beach in Newcastle once back in 2002 - that was very quick and they were quite far away so this was really amazing.

To think that there is a whole beach full of people swimming and just a little bit out to sea these whales are splashing and playing. The people on that boat must have had an amazing time as it was right next to their boat.

Unfortunately my little digital camera wansn't good enought to get pictures of it as it was a bit too far away but here is one picture of Anthony when we reached Bondi after our walk - you can see how packed the beach was.
